Es ist die Perfektion der Anonymität und verrät viel über das Land und doch kann man die Love Hotels nur als Widerspruch empfinden: In einer Gesellschaft, welche den öffentlichen Austausch von Zärtlichkeiten weitestgehend ablehnt, gibt es Gasthäuser nur für Sex und man wird fortlaufend mit ihrer Existenz konfrontiert.

The reception is situated behind milky or darkened glass, or is completely abandoned. On a photo board, you can pick the room automatically. It’s the perfection of anonymity and reveals a lot about the country, and yet you can only perceive the Love Hotels contradictory: In a society that denies the public exchange of tenderness to the greatest possible extent, there are guesthouses only for sex and you’re sequentially confronted with their existence.
